The Lakeview Swimming Pool, a beloved community gem since its construction by the Lakeview Lions Club in 1952, faces an uncertain future due to financial challenges. The Town of Lakeview announced it can no longer support the pool beyond last year (summer 2024), leaving many residents concerned about losing this vital resource for youth and families in our area.
In response to this crisis, Charley Tracy, a Town Council member, spearheaded the formation of a dedicated committee in October 2024. This committee comprises nine passionate community members, bringing together expertise in grant writing, project management, business operations, education, and public service. Together, they established the Friends of Lakeview Community Pool (FLCP), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with an unwavering goal to ensure that the Lakeview Swimming Pool remains open, operational, and sustainable for current and future generations.
The Town of Lakeview's financial reports show an annual payroll of $71,000, operational costs of $32,000, and $30,000 needed for repairs and maintenance. Total revenue from pool passes, lap swim, swim team activities, and aerobic classes is approximately $33,000, leading to a deficit of $100,000.
The Lakeview Swimming Pool will not open in the summer of 2025 without immediate action. The Friends of Lakeview Community Pool (FLCP) need to raise between $100,000 and $135,000 through sponsorships and grants for essential infrastructure, operations, and staffing. Community support is crucial for two reasons: first, to ensure the pool opens in summer 2025; and second, to demonstrate community backing, which is necessary to secure grant funding for long-term sustainability.
Please join us in preserving this invaluable community asset. Your generous contributions—whether small or large—will significantly impact the pool's future and ensure it remains a source of joy for families and youth for years to come.
